Description
Accuser! All verses come from a KJV Bible. Satan is God’s great enemy, and therefore the enemy of Christians as well. Among several other names, Satan is known as the accuser.
Satan was formerly a beautiful and powerful cherub, likely the highest of all angels. But iniquity was found in him (Ezekiel 28:15), and he was lifted up in pride, desiring to be greater than the Lord God (Isaiah 14:12–15). He led an army of angels into rebellion, which resulted in his ejection from heaven—along with every angel who had followed him (Ezekiel 28:17–18). Now Satan prowls the earth, seeking to hinder all he can from choosing salvation and living a life of obedience (1 Peter 5:8). In addition, Satan acts as the accuser of believers in an attempt to discredit them before God.
For the time being, God has allowed Satan the accuser limited access to heaven. In the book of Job, we see Satan stand before God and accuse a righteous man named Job, claiming that Job is only faithful because God had blessed him abundantly (Job 1:9–10). Satan posits that, if Job is put to the test, he would eventually turn from God and forsake his righteous life (verse 11; 2:4–5). In His omniscience, God knows that Job will remain steadfast, and He gives Satan the accuser permission to test Job. Revelation 12:10 And I heard a loud voice saying in heaven, Now is come salvation, and strength, and the kingdom of our God, and the power of his Christ: for the accuser of our brethren is cast down, which accused them before our God day and night. [Revelation 12:9 tells us who this accuser is, Satan himself. He accuses day and night]. Accuser: to accuse before a judge: to make an accusation; of an extra-judicial accusation. (“Accuser” is just one of the many names that Satan goes by. Who is our judge? GOD!!! Brethren: a fellow believer, united to another by the bond of affection. Does God like those that sow discord among the brethren, among other things? Let Proverbs 6:16-19 tell you. Verse 19 is very important; it tells us that God considers the seventh thing an abomination (sower of discord among brethren). [God can hate? I didn't know that! Not a good idea to sow discord among the brethren]. Abomination: a disgusting thing, abomination, abominable; in an ethical sense (of wickedness etc.). What else does God consider an abomination? Could it be homosexuality? Soweth: to sow, the act of scattering seed for propagation. Sowing seeds of what? See discord next. Discord: Disagreement among persons or things. Between persons, difference of opinions; variance; opposition; contention; strife; any disagreement which produces angry passions, disputes. Do you know how to prevent discord among the brethren and yourself? Study the Bible yourself and learn the whole truth; encourage the brethren to study it as well. God's truth makes you free; free from discord, deception, sin and the bondage associated with them. See John 8:31-32 and 17:17, plus 2 Timothy 2:15. An example of the Accuser at work: Job 1:6 Now there was a day when the sons of God came to present themselves before the LORD, and Satan came also among them.Job 1:7 And the LORD said unto Satan, Whence comest thou? Then Satan answered the LORD, and said, From going to and fro in the earth, and from walking up and down in it.Job 1:8 And the LORD said unto Satan, Hast thou considered my servant Job, that there is none like him in the earth, a perfect and an upright man, one that feareth God, and escheweth evil?Job 1:9 Then Satan answered the LORD, and said, Doth Job fear God for nought?Job 1:10 Hast not thou made an hedge about him, and about his house, and about all that he hath on every side? thou hast blessed the work of his hands, and his substance is increased in the land.Job 1:11 But put forth thine hand now, and touch all that he hath, and he will curse thee to thy face.Job 1:12 And the LORD said unto Satan, Behold, all that he hath is in thy power; only upon himself put not forth thine hand. So Satan went forth from the presence of the LORD.
