I like to learn what certain words mean, such as gentile or gentiles, so as not to be confused when reading or discussing them .KJV Bible dictionary definition follows:Gentile: In the scriptures, a pagan; a worshipper of false gods; any person not a Jew or a Christian; a heathen. The Hebrews included in the term goim or nations, all the tribes of men who had not received the true faith, and were not circumcised. The Christians translated goim by the L. gentes, and imitated the Jews in giving the name gentiles to all nations who were not Jews nor Christians. In civil affairs, the denomination was given to all nations who were not Romans./////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////Strong’s Concordance definitions follow along with pertinent verses:Gentile: Greek word # G1672, a Greek either by nationality, whether a native of the main land or of the Greek islands or colonies, in a wider sense the name embraces all nations not Jews that made the language, customs, and learning of the Greeks their own; the primary reference is to a difference of religion and worship.Romans 2:9 Tribulation and anguish, upon every soul of man that doeth evil, of the Jew first, and also of the Gentile;/////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////Gentiles: Hebrew word #H1471, go'-ee; rarely (shortened) גֹּי gôy; a foreign nation; hence, a Gentile; also (figuratively) a troop of animals, or a flight of locusts:—Gentile, heathen, nation, people. Greek word #G1484, eth'-nos; a race (as of the same habit), i.e. a tribe; specially, a foreign (non-Jewish) one (usually, by implication, pagan):—Gentile, heathen, nation, people. This word occurs 129 times in 121 verses in the KJV Bible. Isaiah 60:3 And the Gentiles shall come to thy light, and kings to the brightness of thy rising. Acts 9:15 But the Lord said unto him, Go thy way: for he is a chosen vessel unto me, to bear my name before the Gentiles, and kings, and the children of Israel: It is apparent to me that these words have different meanings in different verses. I like to know what I’m reading or discussing, apples or oranges so to speak.I recommend as always, please continue to study, as we are commanded to do, all aspects of scripture to include definitions of individual words. See the next verse:2 Timothy 2:15 Study to show thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth.
