I choose to believe the below scriptures, among others, tell me that it is okay to listen to others that can guide me to a better understanding of God's word. But, I also have to search the scriptures daily and verify what I hear. I have to make sure it aligns with God's word also. I have to ask myself, is it true or is it false? This is a personal responsibility; it is not the responsibility of someone else. (This is a KJV Bible study guide). Acts 8:30 And Philip ran thither to him, and heard him read the prophet Esaias, and said, Understandest thou what thou readest?Acts 8:31 And he said, How can I, except some man should guide me? And he desired Philip that he would come up and sit with him. 2 Timothy 3:14 But continue thou in the things which thou hast learned and hast been assured of, knowing of whom thou hast learned them; Acts 17:11 These were more noble than those in Thessalonica, in that they received the word with all readiness of mind, and searched the scriptures daily, whether those things were so. (These people listened then verified. A really good example for all of us). 1 John 4:1 Beloved, believe not every spirit, but try the spirits whether they are of God: because many false prophets are gone out into the world. I'll give you an example. Many are led to believe that their salvation can be purchased with money. Not so, thus the following saying comes into effect: A fool and his money are soon parted. Proverbs 11:4 Riches profit not in the day of wrath: but righteousness delivereth from death. (See Psalm 49:6-12 also). Ezekiel 7:19 They shall cast their silver in the streets, and their gold shall be removed: their silver and their gold shall not be able to deliver them in the day of the wrath of the LORD: they shall not satisfy their souls, neither fill their bowels: because it is the stumblingblock of their iniquity. Zephaniah 1:18 Neither their silver nor their gold shall be able to deliver them in the day of the LORD's wrath; but the whole land shall be devoured by the fire of his jealousy: for he shall make even a speedy riddance of all them that dwell in the land. Acts 8:20 But Peter said unto him, Thy money perish with thee, because thou hast thought that the gift of God may be purchased with money. [Do you think His gift can be bought? I certainly hope not]. 1 Peter 1:18 Forasmuch as ye know that ye were not redeemed with corruptible things, as silver and gold, from your vain conversation received by tradition from your fathers;1 Peter 1:19 But with the precious blood of Christ, as of a lamb without blemish and without spot: Please read the above verses very carefully. Salvation, the holy spirit, a healing or God's blessings can't be bought friend. Listen, but, don't believe it till you verify it for yourself that what was said is actually true (that it matches what is said in God's word). Study your Bibles diligently; verify for yourself what others tell you is in the Bible. If you want to be free from the bondage of deception, (caused by listening to false teachers), learn the truth by studying the word of God completely as we are commanded to do; see the following verses. Another really good reason to study is you will not hear God’s word today where you should hear His word (in church). 2 Timothy 2:15 Study to show thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth. John 8:32 And ye shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free. John 17:17 Sanctify them through thy truth: thy word is truth. Amos 8:11 Behold, the days come, saith the Lord GOD, that I will send a famine in the land, not a famine of bread, nor a thirst for water, but of hearing the words of the LORD: (That famine for hearing the Word of the Lord is upon us now. People are starving for the truth in the Word. Sadly, fairy tales, false teachings, traditions and commandments of men are all that are taught in most churches today. You can overcome the famine by actually studying the word of God yourself; what a concept).
